Nutrition  is the science that interprets the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of an organism. It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion. The diet of an organism is what it eats, which is largely determined by the availability and palatability of foods. For humans, a healthy diet includes preparation of food and storage methods that preserve nutrients from oxidation, heat or leaching, and that reduce risk of foodborne illness. Ovulation  is the release of  eggs  from the  ovaries . In humans, this event occurs when the  follicles  rupture and release the secondary oocyte ovarian cells.   After ovulation, during the  luteal phase , the egg will be available to be  fertilized  by  sperm . In addition, the  uterine lining ( endometrium ) is thickened to be able to receive a fertilized egg. If no conception occurs, the uterine lining as well as blood will be shed during  menstruation . In humans In  humans , ovulation occurs about midway through the  menstrual cycle , after the  follicular phase . F amily planning  is the practice of controlling the number of children in a family and the intervals between their births. Contemporary notions of family planning, however, tend to place a woman and her childbearing decisions at the center of the discussion, as notions of women's empowerment and reproductive autonomy have gained traction in many parts of the world. Family planning may involve consideration of the number of children a woman wishes to have, including the choice to have no children, as well as the age at which she wishes to have them. These matters are influenced by external factors such as marital situation, career considerations, financial position, any disabilities that may affect their ability to have children and raise them, besides many other considerations.
